Illinois Liquor License Renewal: ILCC Requirements & 2026 Portal Guide

In Illinois, the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) oversees alcohol licensing. As of February 2026, the entire renewal process has changed with the launch of a new centralized portal. For operators across the state, staying compliant now requires navigating this new digital infrastructure while maintaining strict standing with the Department of Revenue.

1. The New 2026 ILCC Portal

Illinois has retired the use of MyTaxIllinois for liquor license renewals. All licensees must now use the new ILCC Portal. To access this, you are required to have an iLogin account, the state's secure sign-in system.

Action Required: If your license expires in 2026 and you have not yet transitioned to the new portal, you should do so immediately. The transition period included a "blackout" in mid-February, and any pending renewals must now be completed in the new system.

2. Local vs. State Licensing

In Illinois, you must maintain a valid local liquor license from your municipality (e.g., the City of Chicago's BACP) to keep your state license active. If your local license is suspended or revoked, your state license is automatically invalidated.

3. BASSET Certification

All alcohol servers in Illinois must have valid BASSET (Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training) certification. While these are per-employee, a bar or restaurant can face heavy fines or renewal rejections if their staff certifications are not kept up to date.
